Navigating the way home
This YouTube video is a story about the parent experience of going home with a premature baby.
Before you leave the NICU:
Ask the hospital if they offer visiting nurses that helps transition care to home. Hiring an experienced doula may also help but do inquire about the doula’s experience with preemies.
Keep in mind that some preemies will need a lot of follow-up care with physicians such as with eye, nose, throat doctor, dermatologists, kidney specialists etc.
There may be a nurse in your NICU with experience and expertise to check if baby’s properly fastened in the car seat before you head home. When in doubt, ask for help.
